When you’re a new homeowner with a new backyard, one of the first things that you’re going to want to do is throw a party to celebrate. However, before you rush out and invite all of your friends over for a get-together, remember that a bad party will live in memory even longer than a great one. With that in mind, here are five key tips to ensuring that your backyard get-togethers are good memories in the making.
1: Good Fences Make Good Neighbors
A fence is more than just a boundary between your property and your neighbor’s. It’s also a privacy curtain, a way to muffle the noise from your choice of music, and keeps your business your own. Choosing the right fence for your needs can be difficult – thankfully it’s easy to find a reputable fence company to help you find something that will suit your needs perfectly.
2: Grass Doesn’t Have to be Greener on the Other Side
Remember that when you plan a party, atmosphere is important. You might plan a terrific party, but if your backyard lawn is sparse and uninviting, you’re not going to have the best time. Make sure your lawn is ready for the traffic ahead of time. Learning what kind of grass you have and how to take care of it will make sure that your lawn is ready for everything from bocce ball to croquet.
3: Get Rid of the Bugs
If there’s one thing that’s almost guaranteed to send all your guests running inside, it’s bugs. From flying pests like gnats and mosquitoes to the crawling ants, nobody relishes these uninvited guests. There are a bevy of options for you to repel them, however. Whether you use tiki torches laden with citronella oil or timed misters attached to your fences, you can keep the flying pests to a minimum. And for dealing with ants, a simple barrier of ant bait and repellent around your backyard and home can keep them under control as well.
4: Everyone Needs a Place to Sit
Standing desks may be the hottest thing in the workplace, but when it comes to a party, people want to relax. Make sure that there’s a spot for everyone on your guest list to sit down, and add a few more chairs just in case someone unexpected shows up. Arrange seating in groups of three or four to encourage guests to sit and talk. Don’t forget tables for people to put drinks and food either.
5: Don’t Forget the Food
Speaking of food, don’t think that every backyard get-together has to be centered around dinner. Consider inviting friends over for a Sunday morning brunch, complete with mimosas on the back porch as you enjoy a pleasant spring morning. And if you’re not the best cook in the world, turn the party into a potluck event with every guest bringing their favorite dish. This is a great way to host a late Saturday lunch.
Backyards and parties go together like summer and ice cream. And once you get used to it, throwing an impromptu gathering is easy and fun.
