Located in Shaker Heights, Ohio, this Tudor-style home was once completely neglected and left in foreclosure. Baring beautiful bones and historic architectural details, W Design breathed new life into this amazing property. The challenge of this project was merging the husband’s traditional style with the wife’s modern taste. A happy balance was found by adding modern details like brass hardware and custom black iron doors without compromising the traditional architecture of the home. The homeowners’ beautiful collection of artwork from years of living in China was incorporated into the design. Classic Chinese antiques add to the authentic flair. Old-meets-new in this Turn-of-the-Century home.

Kitchen
The challenge in this project was merging the husband’s traditional style with the wife’s modern taste. This kitchen is a bridge between the two aesthetics. The transitional shaker style white cabinetry on the perimeter and White Pearl Quartzite slab nods towards the classic feel.
Black Steel & Glass Kitchen Cabinet
Juxtaposed with the modern influences of the black iron accents and polished brass hardware, this kitchen is the perfect marriage of opposing styles. The subtle gray glass herringbone backsplash makes for an understated backdrop that allows the black range to really shine. The custom black hood with brass perimeter detailing brings out the gold knobs in the BlueStar range for some added drama.
Hood is a custom design in black stainless steel with polished brass perimeter.

Window-Seat
On the first floor, the designer took advantage of the beautiful bay window by adding a window seat. This cozy nook is perfect for curling up with a good book and admiring the home’s beautiful landscape. Shades of indigo and midnight blues play off one another for a mesmerizing combination.
Bench is covered in S. Harris fabric.
– Custom window seat in midnight blue Stroehim fabric with matching banquette pillows in a subtle geometric pattern.
Black Wainscoting
The designer took a risk and went for a dramatic all black formal powder room. I’m in love with how this entire space turned out! Black wainscoting looks so chic, especially in high gloss!
– Fixture in powder vestibule is Hudson Valley Lighting.
Formal Powder Room
Sherwin Williams Caviar paint covers both the walls and trim. Phillip Jeffries Sunset Silk wallcovering in Melbourne plays off the high gloss trim in the wash closet to create added dimension and drama.

– Floor tile is Bianco Gioia in grey nexus polished mosaic.
Home Office
– Cabinetry is painted in Pure White by Benjamin Moore.
– Ceiling wallcovering is Chinoiserie from Wallquest.

This renovated traditional staircase features a beautiful runner. Staircase runner is Stark Carpet in Brigade.
Master Bedroom
In the master bedroom, the addition of a vaulted ceiling with an applied moulding detail takes this room to the next level. The master bedroom now feels much more grand and open. A neutral color palette with contrasting colors of grey and black keep this room serene yet sophisticated.
