A couple of days ago I had a reader ask me how I select materials for my clients and that actually was one of the most interesting questions someone asked me lately. I’ll tell you why. As an interior designer I believe that we should select carefully what we choose to live with. I know that many times we tend to buy things because they’re “interesting,” but for a home to be designed correctly, it should be done in a thoughtful and experienced way.
Just last year I worked for a client from the UK that was ready to renovate her entire main floor. Like many European houses, most of her main rooms had ceramic tiles and she knew that wasn’t the look and feel she was after.
My client wanted the warmth and durability of hardwood flooring and being far away, I had to research about good and reliable companies that I could refer to her. That’s always exciting because sometimes you find companies that are passionate about what they work with, such as this company that sells solid oak hardwood flooring. The moment I saw their floors I wanted to learn more about their material and their website was very helpful for that. Imagine having the luxury of replacing your floors with wide solid oak floors. The results are always worth it when we choose the right material, from the right source, and that answers my reader’s question– you can’t only guess, you need to find the best for your client because every project and every home deserves that extra attention.
Take a look at this solid oak floors from Sutton Timber:
According to their website, these solid English oak floors “are sawn from oak trees that are grown within Great Britain; it has pippy characteristics over the board. The grain is not always straight and the color of the boards can vary according to the mineral content of the soil where the tree grew. Traditionally in Great Britain, they opt for a floor board that is at least eight foot long and 200mm wide.”
